Using Map Layers (iOS)

Customize your iOS Canvass map with layers, shortcuts, hail and wind history, and solar coverage.

Written by Hunter Allred

Customize your Canvass map with property pins, parcel boundaries, customer locations, assigned areas, weather history, and solar coverage. Save your most-used layers as shortcuts so you can turn them on or off directly from the map.

Open Map layers

  1. Open Canvass in the Terros iOS app.

  2. Tap Layers — the stacked-layers icon on the map.

  3. Tap a layer’s image or name to turn it on or off. An enabled layer has a highlighted border.

  4. Tap Close to return to the map.

You can use multiple layers together. Tap the info icon on a layer to learn what it shows.

Choose your layers

Layer

What it does

Pins

Shows property pins on homes.

Customers

Shows nearby customer accounts from your company.

Parcels

Adds property boundaries. Use it with Pins or on its own.

Areas

Shows assigned areas you have access to.

Hail

Adds a colored overlay of historical hail activity.

Wind

Adds a colored overlay of historical wind activity.

Autoselect

Automatically opens property information as you center the bullseye on a property.

Solar

Shows which parts of a roof receive more solar coverage, where data is available.

Available layers depend on your company’s settings and your account access. Hail and Wind require weather data access.

Add shortcuts to the map

  1. Open Layers.

  2. Tap the star on a layer to add it as a map shortcut.

  3. Choose up to three shortcuts.

  4. Close Map layers, then tap a shortcut to turn that layer on or off.

A filled star means the layer is saved as a shortcut. Starring a layer does not turn it on. You can enable more than three layers; the three-layer limit applies only to shortcuts.

To replace a shortcut, tap its filled star to remove it, then star another layer.

Explore hail and wind history

Use the weather layers to review storm activity around the neighborhoods you work.

  1. Open Layers and turn on Hail, Wind, or both.

  2. Scroll down and tap Hail history or Wind history.

  3. Adjust the From and To endpoints using the date-range slider or arrows. The screen shows the dates for your selection.

  4. Adjust Hail size or Wind speed to choose the range you want to see.

  5. Tap Save, then close Map layers to review the map.

Each weather layer has its own date and size or speed settings. Tap Cancel to leave the history editor without applying your changes.

Measurement

Hail

Up to 365 days ago

Hail size in inches

Wind

Up to four weeks ago

Wind speed in miles per hour

Use the color legend on the map to interpret the overlay. Hail colors represent size bands, from 0.5 inches or less through more than 1.5 inches. Wind colors represent speed bands, from 40 mph or less through more than 85 mph.

For example, turn on Hail, select a recent date range, and narrow the hail-size range to focus your review. Keep Pins and Parcels on to see properties and boundaries alongside the weather overlay.

If an expected overlay does not appear, confirm the layer is on and widen the date and size or speed ranges. Data may not be available for every location or selected period.

Use the Solar layer

Open Layers and turn on Solar, then zoom into the roofs you want to review. The overlay shows differences in solar coverage across a roof where data is available.

Solar coverage is not available everywhere. If no overlay appears for a property, data may be unavailable for that location.

The Solar layer shows roof coverage. To find properties using solar permit or installer information, use the solar-related options in Filters, when available to your account.

Common questions

Why can’t I see Hail or Wind?

These layers appear when your account has weather data access and your company’s settings allow them. Check with your administrator if you expect to have access.

Why did my property pins disappear?

Open Layers and confirm Pins is enabled. Also review any active property or sales activity filters.

Why can’t I turn off Areas?

The Areas layer stays on while you are managing areas. Exit that mode to change its visibility.
