Why Can't I See New Developments on the Map?

The Terros mobile app uses Google Maps to display satellite imagery and standard map views. The imagery you see comes directly from Google, and they update their satellite photos on their own schedule—typically every 1-3 years, though some areas may be updated more or less frequently.

What You Can Do

  • Switch to Standard View: If satellite imagery is outdated, tap Settings > Map Options and change from "Satellite" to "Standard" view. Standard maps show streets and labels without satellite photos, and Google updates these more frequently than satellite imagery.

  • Use Street-Level Context: Even when satellite imagery is outdated, Standard view will show current street layouts, property boundaries, and labels that can help you navigate to new developments.

Why This Happens

Google collects satellite imagery from various sources (satellites, aerial photography) and processes it before making it available. New developments, buildings, or changes to properties may not appear in satellite view until Google captures and publishes updated imagery for that specific area. Key factors:

  • High-priority areas (major cities, rapidly growing regions) tend to get more frequent updates

  • Rural or slower-growing areas may have older imagery

  • Update schedule is entirely controlled by Google's priorities

What Terros Can't Control

We cannot update the satellite imagery ourselves—it's entirely managed by Google Maps. We display the most current imagery Google provides for your location. When Google updates their satellite data for an area, those changes will automatically appear in the Terros app.

Practical Tip

If you're canvassing a new development that doesn't appear in Satellite view:

  • Switch to Standard view to see the street layout and property locations

  • Physically visit the location to confirm current conditions before planning your route
